Just purchased a m916a1 and want to get rid of the factory tire setup. I had plans to put 1400s on them like Reorider did on his but I hear they are becoming obsolete. I would like to see what folks are running on theirs and how satisfied they are with them. I have seen a couple that have 395 xml on them. Also like to see some with 1600s. I am looking to put michelin xzl tires on it. So post up your pics of your setup. The increase in tire size will also help me get the rpms down a bit since I don't have a OD trans. Thanks

16.00s will be better suited for it to get better mph. You can easily give the big cam more power to compensate. Or you can go over to 12.00R24s which is basically 14.00s but in dual form. So you have the security of not being totally down with a blowout. 395s are abundant but you will lose road speed like you said at 46.6in tall.

Here is a 920 with 1200/24s on it.

Thanks I hope to see some 1600s w combat wheels and get some feedback. I have the detroit 60 series in my truck though . I like the dual 1200/24s but lots of cash for them.

I forget the 916A1s are detroits compared to the 915A1s are still the cummins. Screwed up system. Here is Postmans 920 on 1600s.

the 395s are 2in taller than the 315s which isnt gonna do alot for speed. about 300rpm maybe difference. As this would basically be 1400s to a 395 on a 5 ton.

16's make it look like how they should have come in the first place.
Well 12R24s are only 2in shorter than 1600s but with the security of duals for a line haul or offroad tractor.

I run 2 12R22.5 up on the steer axle and the standard 9/20s in the rear- couldn't find anymore 22.5s in my price range----(Free) Th 12R22.5 is the same height/diameter as the NDT 20s that most of the 809s came with, so it makes a good equivalent without adverse wear on the Tcase. I have enough 22.5 rims to convert all but 2 wheels over to 22.5 but I would STRONGLY suggest going with the 12R24.5 as like Simp said, this will open up a range of used Commercial truck tires for you to choose from. your 916 is essentially the same as the old Classic Frieghtliner that I used to run. 60series Detroit with an 10spd and lockers on heavy Rockwells. Go with the 24.5 buds, you will thank yourself later.

Like artisan said in his recent post. 16R21s are an option. They bolt right on. Ive got the 16R21 tires in Memphis for cheap in Goodyear AT2. Just need the wheels. White owl had some
