M923a1 failure, need input.

Cost wise I would diagnose, then research. Repairs may not be to bad... They are all good trucks as built, I have considered power upgrades and other mods, but in reality my truck is reliable and tough as nails as is ;). If you do have to change the motor there are a ton of possibilities.
By the way. I love the Stanwood / Camano area. I'll be back there for Christmas with the family.

If they are selling residue trucks with the 8.3 anywhere near you I'd go for one of them.

The one in my M927A2 is great even dragging that beast around.

My friend had the one in his M923A2 turned up to 375 HP and it runs like a scalded dog.

Put some super singles on it and you can cruise at 65 MPH.

I've been researching the mechanical N14 it's essentialy a 855 a bolt in I would probably run a 15 speed behind it and the T138 case. I am no expert. With your own research you can find the right info .
Zx, a complete swap like that, as fun as it sounds, would likely force me to have to live in the truck.
Soldier B is only on board so much.

Hi Charger, I am not unhappy with the way she ran before the incident.
Just the idea of attempting my first in frame overhaul out doors in the PNW winter doesnt sound to appealing.
Do you have a 250 or a 6cta,cant see your avatar well enough.
I am on the hilltop between Stanwood and Silvana, come by and point and laugh if you get a chance.

Wreckerman, JBLM trucks are all getting shipped to Fontana CA now.
The days of cheap local trucks is over, current prices 8500.00 and up.
I did consider the option of buying another truck for parts but without being able to inspect, plus transport, didn't make sense.

Does anyone know which tecnical manual contains the towing and recovery information for m923.

When looking at them on your computer, they are fairly easy to search by keyword.

That's how I found the towing info just now. I searched Towing, clicked next about 15 times as the pages showed the highlighted word in the TM. Took about 1-2 minutes .

She says "did you search for the keyword" Doh!

Are you towing with a tow bar?
No, I dont have anything big enough to tow her.
Just wanted to see for sure if drive lines needed to be pulled for towing.
The emergency recovery last week was only a couple of miles so I just put her in neutral, neutral.
I might have access to an industrial building in Arlington to work on her.
The tow there is a bit more so I want to do it right.

~15 miles? Not sure where the point the transfer case would be at risk is. (If the tcase is in neutral, the transmission won't be spinning, right?)

Do you have a tow bar? (And as importantly a 24V tow light kit)

If it pans out I will just have the semi wrecker move it, front end in the air.

50-75 miles, no worries with trans and tcase in N.

Keep speeds under 45 mph.

Don't forget either to put the caging pin assemblies ( i.e. 'pin" the brakes) in the rear brake chambers or supply air between the towing vehicle and the towed truck to keep the brakes released. 809s and such did not have this issue.
