Picked up my 1st MV today or yesterday (still haven't gone to sleep) with help from a buddy of mine at the GL lot in Barstow. I knew the truck didn't start from a previous inspection so I went prepared with all the essential top off fluids and extra batteries. Truck would crank over with a jump, but would not start. I primed the fuel system and gave it a go...success the sleeping beauty awoke :jumpin:. Even the guy working the lot seemed suprised, but even if it didn't start I had a plan B for a flat bed tow. Did a quick check of brakes working and all lights good, drove it off the base for a more thorough inspection of everthing. Topped trans was 3 qts low and coolant low by 3 qts. Off we went I didnt have a spare tire so I contacted Mark at $100man he said we could swing by and pick up wheel/tire already mounted:grin:. We picked up the the spare and were back on the road. The truck performed very well even climbing the hills in the desert heat temp did not go past 200. It rides real smooth and steering is real smooth for a big truck. Nothing like what I was expecting from talking to the people that own a deuce.
Now that it's home I'll start going over what needs to be done to it. First on the list is change of all fluids and filters then a paint job cause man whoever painted it must have done it with their grandmas tooth brush.
Will post pictures soon.

Hey Fast I was at Barstow on Weds picking up a M1009. David and Tacy are cool and very helpful

925A2:drool::drool::drool:

Did you get a one day trip pass from the DMV or did you cross your fingers and make a run for it? Where about in LA are you? I have thought about trying to just drive the vehicles home but am always affraid the tickets and towing would be more $ and a bigger headache then just sucking up the towing.

Congrats on the 925
One of these days I will get one. Think I will tackle the Class A first.

No pass from the DMV, just insurance and a prayer. I wore my camo hat and a green shirt so just in case the cops saw me they would think I'm military. It kind of made me laugh, a guy in a trash truck pulled up next to me and yelled out the window OORAH!

I live close to where the 5fwy and 710fwy meet. What about you?

Great looking truck, only issue is the rims and tires...all wrong, but I'll be a pal and swap you my stock deuce rims and tires for them. My loss, but I feel the need to help. and it is a bonus as you get 10 for 6!

Looks like fun. Where are those pictures taken at?
Camp Dirtbag is a top secret location. If you decide to join us you will be met by a rusty beercan just off the 15 fwy. You will be blindfolded and led to the location. If you survive the flaming donuts and shovel weenies, you will then be allowed to know the location of the camp and free to drive out on your own.

or you could just look at the GPS cords and maps in previous Dirtbag threads,

Blindfolded huh...last time I got blind folded it was my birthday and my girlfriend gave me a nice surprise, but I doubt this will be anything like that. Still looking forward to it.

Sweet truck!

Please post how you intend to license that newer truck. Does it qualify for "Historic Plates"? Registration in California is OUTRAGEOUS! I see one in my future....

Thanks, It won't qualify for historic plates for another 3 years. It has to be 25 years or older for that. In the mean time I'm going to look for a s280 shelter and equip it like a camper that way it will be able to be registered as an RV.
