So today I found that my lift pump is leaking fuel out of the priming pump. I'm looking to replace it and I'm a little confused on the part #s. Erik's sells P/N 3917999 and shows a picture that doesn't quite match up to my pump. The site says it replaces P/N 4988749 which, when looked up on google, does match my current pump. A thread here says that 4988749 is the newer P/N though. Does anyone have a definitive answer on which part is correct?

A picture of what you have might help.

That's what's got me a little confused: That thread says 4988749 is the newest, but Erik's says 3917999 replaces that one.
I ended up with the 4988749. You can probably just call up your local Cummins dealer and confirm. I found that they were as cheap as anyplace else. Just give them your engine serial number and they will let you know. I also created an online account for Cummins QuickServe. You can put in your engine serial number and it will tell you what parts to use but not necessarily the latest revision.

BTW... the new pumps from Cummins are made in China too!

brasco, when you ordered the pump, did it come with the needed gaskets? And did you have to order the tube seals that maccus mentions in his post? What were all the part #s you ordered?

I recently needed a new pump on a B serises Cummins motor. The machine was in for work and they sourced a new pump from Cummins.

They hit me for $175 for that one!

Looks like there are a bunch of copys out there too.

I ordered the gasket and the 2 sealing washers with the pump. - I could not find my invoice so I don't recall the actual part numbers I received. I did check my online shopping cart and I think I got the parts below... again, If you are getting them direct from Cummins, just give them the engine serial number and they will look it up and make sure you get the latest - they update when they ship, not necessarily what you order.

i am having a fuel problem on a 923a2 and after a few times of pressuring up my tank i seen some fuel coming from the back side of that manual pump. does that mean the pump needs to be replaced or some gasket/orings? wondering if i can pick it up from truck pro . any info would be highly appreciated

In case anyone wanted more confirmation about part numbers - I just found my invoice from October 2014 and I confirmed that the parts I listed above are indeed what I installed on the 1991 M931A2.

The new fuel pump was a little different than the one on the truck but, again, it fit and works just fine.

I got my parts and installed them today. Pretty straightforward. When I got it all back together I was able to easily prime the engine and it started up right away. Hopefully that was the only air leak in my fuel system. If I keep losing prime, I'll be pressurizing the tank next.

I just picked up the 3 required parts from my local Cummins dealer (Rocky Mountain in SLC) to do the lift pump on my newest addition to my MV family which is a 1990 M925-A2 and the newest version of the lift pump is the #4988749 and the cover plate gasket is #3939258 and the 2 sealing gaskets/washers are #3918192 for a grand total of $67.60 with taxes. If you look up the parts via the "quickserv" it lists the original number for the pump as #3917999 which is superseded by the #4988749. My M925a2 has a rebuilt/overhauled motor in it (I don't remember for sure but I think the tag on the motor said 2003) and it did have the new style 4988749 pump on it. My M923a2 still has the old style 3917999 pump on it. (don't know if it's ever been changed) so who knows which one lasts longer?? lol
