Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi Rally, Sat, 8/2, 9 - 3, Saddle Brook Harley Davidson
I got a call on this on Tuesday, but didn't want to post until I filled in some blanks. Several of us were asked to come to the fund raising rally with our MVs to do a static display. I got the following information after a visit to the dealership today.
This is a fundraiser for the Sgt, who most of you know has been in a Mexican jail and is now on trial. Google has lots of information on the particulars for anyone who'd like to get up to speed. Donations will go to the official site. I'm assuming for humanitarian and legal expenses. H-D can provide exact details if you inquire Saturday. I found that quite a few dealers are doing this across the country via Google. Nobody has suggested that we donate - just come.
- Static display will be from 9 - 3 at the dealership. It's on Rt 17 Southbound at the Essex St exit (the one for Hackensack Medical Center/Home Depot/National Wholesale, etc.). Since the whole idea of a rally is to draw a crowd, I'm figuring the more the merrier. If you've ever been past when they're running an event, it'll be neat to watch how they fit everything. I'm hoping they'll park us out front on Essex to draw attention. Just be prepared for a traffic jam.
- There are at least 3 of us who plan to go. People who were interested in this thread are welcome. Customs are OK. None of us are doctrinal purists. The H-D crowd will likely appreciate your truck.
- There will be complimentary BBQ food at the dealership. They're hoping people will put the $ in the fund jar. In our case, it's in appreciation of burned diesel.
- A free motorcycle run is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. I anticipated that some might like to come and do the run bringing up the rear.
- Trucks at the back door will be welcome as long as they keep up. That might be climbing Skyline Drive at bike speed. I wouldn't do it at the speeds I run the Deuce, but a modern 5 ton would probably be fine.
- This is quickly organized so none of the customary police escorts could be arranged. Everybody's gotta stick together safely.
- Depending on attendance, there will probably be 1 - 4 groups doing different runs.
- Runs are weather permitting.
- Last weather forecast I heard was rain a.m, clearing by noon. They know that if it's really rainy, trucks might not show.
That's about the extent of what I know. Hope I get to meet some of you Saturday.
If you need to drop me a note, I'd prefer an email to a SS PM. Much easier to deal with and I'll see it sooner. Probably better on here.
Thanks.
Steve
