Hello folks I am looking for some opinions/cautions etc. on a truck I am looking at to possibly purchase. It is a 1985 Oshkosh P2526 airport plow truck it has a CAT 3306 engine with an Eaton 9 speed manual with a splitter. The trucks brakes etc are full air. my concerns are the 4 WD is full time you cannot disengage it unless you pulled a drive shaft. It has 60K miles on it and no indication of any types of overhaul tags anywhere. The good points are it is in pretty nice condition, has the least amount of rust I have seen on one of these trucks in a long time, passenger side front fender will need some metal replaced but the rest looks to be mainly just surface rust and not a lot of that. The truck comes with a HUGE V-plow and a straight angle plow also for the front, it has like a 10 foot wing plow and an 8 foot blade under the chassis of the truck, oh and by the way all these blades are NOT a good thing, I do not want the truck to plow highways, and another bad item that is right there with all the blades is it has a concrete ballast bed on the rear of the truck, it looks to be about 7' x 8' and is about 10 inches thick, HEAVY is the word and I dont want that either! I know CAT parts are not cheap, I am not to sure about the transmission, I know the later trucks were all running Allisons. Please sound out with any concerns that I am missing and if you think its a complete dumb move let me know those thoughts also. Also any ideas on what you guys think is a fair price for something like this, and I know that would only be based upon what I have told you here. I have never owned any trucks other than ARMY, its the fact that its a NAVY truck going to be a problem? ( OK OK SORRY to all you NAVY folks I promise I was only kidding)

Thanks much for any input
Karl

We need pictures!! :) nopics
Those parts that you don't want.. Could you remove them and sell them to make back some of the cost of buying the truck? (whatever that might end up being.) And do you just want one of these trucks to have one, or do you have a specific purpose that you want to use it for? That might help people say yay or nay.
