Hey gang,

doing an m38a1 in Navy gray. Markings planned out are on the sketch, basically,

Hood-
U.S. Navy
94-#

no star

windshield frame will say U S S Independence

Body side will say N.A.S Norfolk

The idea is to reproduce a "might have been jeep" at Norfolk shipyard, 1954-55

I do not think it should have the 94- number, I think that would have been on a later vehicle.
My Navy M38A1 still has the markings on it. It was marked just like the Marine vehicles, with a 6 diget number for the 1950s.
One of the few, Frank USMC RET

My truck # starts with 96***** and it was purchased in 1989.

I think you need to look into the number more.

I an not sure they would have both a ship name and a base on the same vehicle.

N.A.S. stands for naval air station

I don't think your jeep would have the 94 #( trucks 10,000 lb and less )
I believe that system contained in the NAVFAC P-300 started use in the 60's
I search the web for navy jeeps images and there are a lot of good examples
of the correct stenciling.
My m35a2 is being redone as a seabee truck
