need help finding VIN #

Hey yall,

Just bought a 1942 US6 and cant seem to find the same VIN # that is on the title i got. It has been HIGHLY modified. Only thing that is stock is the frame and nose. was wondering if anyone knows where i can find VIN #s.

I bought it from a guy who never titled it in his name so probably not. I found one number on the frame rail that looked to me like a ford vin# from the 70s(I have multiple 70s fords). Not sure where to turn now except to a tag agency.

A lot of vehicles of that era used the engine serial number for the V.I.N. , not sure about the US6's.

Don't know what a us6 is but I would suggest a toothbrush and a bottle of alcohol. Seriously....put the alcohol on the brush and brush the frame on the drivers side between the front wheel and the firewall on the side. I have found serial numbers there several times and they were so weak it took the alcohol to clean up the frame enough to find it. Saved me a couple times. Good luck.

I will try that as last resort. I just painted the frame rails. Thanks for the help!

I will check with a MV club member , he has a Studebaker ,US6 that he is restoring , should be something SOME place on that frame , towards the front spring area , right or left side outer , if it was PIN stamped , it maybe history , but I would start there . I would also check with you state DMV , there maybe a procedure you can use to register a HX MV . Does your state require a title on HX vehicles ? some states do not .

Im not sure, I will actually be titling and tagging it in Pennsylvania. there is some sort of number stamped in the frame rail on the passanger side right behind the front wheel. I will be in contact with a tag agency from PA tonight(gf's mom) and will be asking her about all these questions.

That # on the frame would be you vin remember they did not have 17 digit VIN's back then , probably only numbers and no letters . bob k

Maybe it's time to make a new vin tag?

There should also be a tag on the cowl that should match the frame # . If you find that , you should be good to go , get it verified by your DMV or a LEO and you should be able to get a reg and title . BTW ,You should do this BEFORE you start your restoration , BEFORE you spend a bunch of money on something you CAN NOT reg and title .

Everyone is assuming that it is the original frame. He did say it has been HIGHLY modified. Without seeing pictures we are just guessing.
