New Build

Today starts a new build for me. Since I couldn't find a place to put this I figured this was close enough( if not please move to correct spot). Just got some new Iron. Not much info on it as yet but it is to the best of my knowledge a 36' uniflite that was used by the navy. She has some holes and a few dings. I'm estimating bout 2 years to get her to shipshape. I was wondering if anyone out there has info or experience with this type of boat. More pics will come as I progress with the restoration.

Interesting. Looks to be aluminum? Is the upper cabin a civilian add on? 8-71 Detroit power? The numbers on the stern mean something, obviously the 36 is the length, maybe the 68 is the build year. I've worked on PBRs and wood Higgins boats but nothing like that. I think it may be a what is called a motor launch.

All steel hull. The cabin was added on but not 100% by who. Has a 8V-71 and it is a V drive

Cool boat! I put the thread for my 36' LCVP in the member's rides section as there really isn't a good forum for boat info. I believe the number on the back means the following
36 is the length in feet
PL is because it's a Landing Craft Personnel Large
68 is the contract year
96 is the boat number in that contract

The guy I bought it from has a big book of info on this type of boat and I will share as soon as it becomes handy. Also I have a friend in the navy looking up the old Tms for the boat. I was doing just a bit of web browsing and I found this http://archive.hnsa.org/doc/boatcat/cat-0058.htm That is more like my boat. Wish I had a LCVP i would get into so much trouble up and down the Bay. More to follow like I said it will be a long road.

I'll be watching this thread. I think my boat restoration will be much further down the line if I even keep it.

This website has listing of boats with similar hull numbers, listed as being built by Marinette Marine. If you have something saying yours was built by Uniflite I'd be interested in seeing it as my boat doesn't have a data plate so I'm going by their info. Curious to see how accurate their listings are.
