Hello all. I have been in the market for a diesel 4x4 for a while and I was pointed to this site to get info on CUCVs. I'm not completely unfamiliar having seen a video of one being restored, but my experience in general is minimal.

Welcome.

There are hundreds of members in TX.

Start with reading the stickies. It will help understand some of the quirks of the CUCVs.

Welcome, and just jump right in. The level of my ignorance is astounding, and I haven't been kicked out yet.

I saw the thread about the rally, that's why I created an account. I would like to attend. I've been looking at 80s blazers and pickups, not sure of the military designations though.

not my area of expertise but - they are generically CUCV
M1009 = Blazer
M1008 = pickup
M1028 = shelter carrier (slightly heavier duty pickup)
and tool body and ambulance versions

Welcome from the Galveston area, hopefully we will actually have a Houston Rally one of these days. It has been talked about but as far as I know nothing has materialized.

Welcome from Oklahoma by way of Texas (Houston area). Yes there is a CUCV Suburban this white one brought me a nice present and since the owner already said hello I'm sure he will chime in when he get on again. You picked a good site for all the information and answers you care to ask. Just be warned military vehicles are pack animals that carry a sickening disease called "Green Iron Disease" also known as "OD Fever" once purchased they infect you with the incurable urge to get more things green. There is some research pointing to the same mental disorder that some hoarders have but I personally think it's more like crack.......or pringles....
