Hi all,

I’m brand new to this website looking to gain/share knowledge as well as seek advice. I recently bought a 2001 M1045A2. I have been doing a lot of research on the vehicle as well as other variants to get familiar with the HMMWV family. If you have any recommendations on favorite/must do mods, I encourage you to leave a comment. Also, I’m looking into completing a VIC-3 setup. If you know anyone selling specific parts/cables please share their information or connect me with them. Thank you all. I’m looking forward to learning more and excited to be a part of a likeminded community.

Welcome to the green disease from another native LIer!

I dont have any experience with VIC 3 stuff. For my CB head phones I used Rugged Radios. They have tons of communication gear. They are known for baja race gear.

I'm new and live on Long Island as well. Did you register and insure it yet? If yes, any guidance you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Perhaps we can compare notes. I could use all the help I can get. Was yours previously titled in another state or is it from Iron P?

I won a 2001 M1045A2 at a 02/26/2020 auction. My EUC cleared early April. I am still waiting on my gov title aka SF-97. I might order a Bill of Sale to register in Vermont and then transfer it to NY.

Insurance isnt the issue. Title & Registration is

That helps a lot. thanks for the info. EUC wait time was not that bad. Registering in VT first might be good. Did you know as little as I do when you bought it? In NY you need a title and a Bill of Sale - right? Also - what to do about the 6 digit VIN. Do you mind if I ask you how much the shipping was? I assume it was in GA. After EUC approval how long until you got it?

Yes - I barely knew anything. Keep doing research like I did and you will learn a lot.

SF-97 is technically a title for the vehicle from the government. It should be enough, but who knows. Since I do not have my SF-97, I want to grab the Bill of Sale to give to VT. This is enough to register my vehicle. VT does not title vehicles more than 15 years age.
6 digit may be a problem. I heard some leave it as is or some people add zeros in front of it. I shipped mine from GA to Kentucky to get doors, turret assembly, and maintenance, etc. I’m then shipping from Kentucky to New York. Shipping should be on avg $1/mile. Who knows coronavirus may surge it a bit higher or lower.
P.S. Join Facebook Groups “HMMWV Owners” etc.

I don't have any vehicles in the HMMWV family so I can not give any valuable advise on those. My 2 CUCVs are registered and insured in NY as "Historical". Insurance cost about $120.00 "each" per year with 10K coverage. Downfall is you can't use them as a daily driver, but many do.

NYS DMV will accept a SF-97 as a title. I did it with my 923a2. VIN doesnt matter since its on the SF-97 and thats a government document. Bring the SF-97 and your invoice from govplanet along with DMV paper work and you should be good to go.

The VT title route is possible but more paper work and running around than using the SF-97 in NY.

If your getting $1/mile on shipping, thats a great deal.

GREAT INFO! What about sales tax? I already paid Georgia when purchasing the vehicle. Do we have to pay another sales tax when registering in New York as well?

Iron P told me that once you pay taxes in NY you can request a refund of the tax paid to them if you submit proof of paying tax in NY. Not sure if this is true or if there are restrictions.

Update:
I am completely registered and inspected and thus on-road legal!!!

What you need are the following:

1) SF-97 Certificate to Title the Vehicle (without this you cannot move forward in NY. You might have to VT if you only have Bill of Sale)

2) Bill of Sale (this is not required, but I also handed this in addition to the SF-97. The SF-97 states on the back of the form that it can count as a Bill of Sale too)

3) MV-82 (Standard DMV Form)

4) DTF-802 (Standard Sales Tax DMV Form)

5) Photo ID (Drivers License)

Once you pay sales tax to DMV, take a photo of the receipt and send it to the Tax Department at I/P. They will refund you the original sales tax that they withheld from the auction. I have the contact info for I/P if you need it for tax refund. Let me know if you need any help. I have a lot of answers to questions I once had.
