That mystery o-ring. I did read someplace here in SS about one o-ring in the kit does not get utilized.


I sure don't know if any of this will help but here it is.

Did mine recently with a new kit from Monkeyboyarmy. Thanks Greg! Just ordered another one after realizing there are TWO of these on my truck! WHAT?! 😲
Wanted to note that mine isn't exactly as pictured in the above breakdown. It was rebuilt in '99, so don't know if it was an update, or what. The anodized aluminum piece on the shaft is actually two parts, which requires an extra o-ring, and another snap ring... unfortunately not included in the kit. But that was ok, because all but one of the the seals and all the other internals looked pretty good, so I just reused the old snap ring and o-ring. I know, I know...but we do what we must!
Sorry, didn't take pictures of that two-piece arrangement, but I will when tearing apart the other one, if anyone is interested.

Outstanding information! Thank you, came in handy as I just completed my short style rebuild. I too have the mystery o-ring. Only thing I missed and am worried about is I lubed the entire thing with air tool oil. Everything. Now I'm worried about having to take it apart and redo with DOT5 or other lubricant, or am I overthinking this and worrying about nothing as the amount of air tool oil is minimal. Advice?
