North Texas: M1009 - Not running - transport from Jacksboro to Collin County?

This is a long shot, but....here I go.

I need help in getting a non-running M1009 from Jacksboro, Texas to McKinney, Texas (about 90 miles one way). I'm a newbie that has learned that my lightweight trailer and truck are not optimal for hauling this truck this distance.

I checked around on having someone here local pick it up, but they are asking $300 and up for doing it.

Is there anyone that can either let me borrow the equipment to do it or is free on this Friday to help me with this project? :)
I can help load, of course.

The county where I purchased it from wants it off their lot by this Friday afternoon at 4 PM. They were nice enough to give me a window of 5 business days, during business hours, to do so.

Any takers?

Of course, I'm assuming that the truck is around 6000 pounds and that I can't get a car hauler from Uhaul to use and my Expedition won't do the job. If I'm wrong with my assumptions, please feel free to educate me. :)

Thanks, in advance.

So you bought that M1009, nice. It was a little rough, but nothing some TLC cannot fix.
I was thinking about getting the M1008 pickup, but really did not want another project right now during the summer.

If was not working I could help, but since I am I cannot. There are members here locally that may be able to help, they should shine in. As for U-Haul trailer they will work, but you cannot tell U-Haul what you are really pulling as they will not let you. Not sure of the reason, but I think it has to due to either the size or it is too old to be in the system. I also think that the only trailer that they have that will work is the silver one that has fold down fenders and larger ramps. As long as you are super careful, it can be done.

Last M1009 I bought from a local county, they let me work on it to get it running and once I did I drove it to a back area that was not gated so I could get it on a Saturday. Did you check to see if there is anyplace like that you can pull it to that is not gated for a Saturday or Sunday pickup?

I'm definitely going to keep that as an option. I tried one tow shop, in Frisco, and they wanted $10 a mile! I nearly laughed out loud. I got the hint real quickly that he didn't want the job.

oh...I started bidding on the truck first and then when it got over $1600 or so, I decided I'd let them have it. It looked nice, though.

Unrelated, but kind of for the OP.....

I just looked at the pictures again on that M1009. It has been converted to 12v and has A/C in it. I can see a A/C compressor on the driver side where the 12v side alternator should be and inside extra vents where they should not be any. The fuel filter is also non-stock and looks like a spin on.

So be careful with this truck, it will not be your standard 24v system with 2 alternators as a stock CUCV. Now I am wishing I would have noticed that before as I would have bid on it. Oh well, guess next time I should pay more attention to the picutres.

Was this a gsa truck, I never seem to find anything local on gsa.
I do not think I can post any links as it is an active auction site and do not want to violate any rules. It is just one of the local auction companies the in the Metroplex, I will send you a PM with the info.

If all else fails, rent a space at a storage lot and drag it over there until you can retrieve it. I have done that before. Is there a walmart near by??? ;-)

I can vouch for 86m1028 that he has the right gear to tow it. The price is fair and after renting a trailer and fuel you probably would only save about $100 if that.

local auction house out of McKinney, Texas. He's been around for over 40 years, I believe. I can get you the contact info in a PM, if that would help!

that's a good idea, as well. Walmart? Um..I think that town is too small for a Walmart. ;)
I like the thoughts, though. Might be worth looking into.

Looks like 86m1028 and I are going to go out there and get it on this Friday. :)

I'm looking forward to it and appreciate the help, for sure!
