We finally got off our butts and have been working on the Officially Unofficial Jp Magazine OD road trip. We currently have 7-9 vehicles confirmed plus any of you that can’t stand to miss an off-beat adventure. It will likely begin near Escondido, California February 28 and end in Ocotillo Wells, CA March 2nd at the TDS Desert Safari Event (which runs the rest of the weekend March 3-4th). There will be no hotels at any of the stops so get your camping gear out of storage. The trip will include Glamis sand dunes, the Superstition Mountains, many miles of rough dirt roads, some highway driving (don’t worry, nobody will be driving all that fast), and a few other cool sights. I’ll follow up with another post when more details are solidified.

Thanks,

John Cappa

John, that sounds way tempting! I've already committed for a vets parade. We need to try again around springtime in the high dez.

We will meet at 9:30 AM on Wednesday February 28th in front of the Carl’s Jr. at the Escondido Promenade off of Valley Parkway in Escondido, CA. It’s real close to the I-15. It's a 3-day trip (five if you stay for the TDS Desert Safari Event) that will take us about 300-400 miles on- and off-road. This is not an official run of any kind, just a few guys in military rigs hanging out. You will be responsible for yourself. You'll need to supply your own fuel, food, fees, camping gear, and so on. There are no hotels or resurants near our planned camp spots but there are several locations along the way to pick up supplies.

Oh, you will need an ATV-type whip antenna with an orange flag for the Glamis Dunes. The flag needs to be at least 8-feet above ground level. A ticket for no flag is $50. Don’t ask how I know.

Don’t forget your swim suit! You might need it.
