So I just got a 70 Kaiser Jeep about month ago and been running good. Over last week I’ve noticed a rotten egg smell. Thinking it was due to recently running multi fuel it wasn’t. Today truck wouldn’t turn over about half a turn n nothing. Ran it all day yesterday at a parade and nothing today. I pulled the battery box out and one battery I discovered is a farm n fleet 24 S. That’s 8 years old. The voltage is 29.2. The other battery is a commercial heavy duty semi truck battery and has 13.9 volts. And the first sign of a battery failing I’m told is rotten egg smell each battery is hooked up in sequence and thought. It should be two 12v to make it a 24v system. I find it odd if it has one 12v and one 24v battery. The 12v battery has 750cca and the 24v is 550cca. I’m hoping with what I’ve read it the smell is coming from batteries. Each battery appears to be wet on top. So I’m assuming maybe the batteries are junking out. Im planning on going to get two matching 12v and hooking them back up in sequence and that cures the problem. Any one else ever had the rotten egg smell. It was terrible and strong while sitting at idle waiting in parade. Sorry so long but thought I’d get all the details in.

Positive to negative. And I’m going to do some work on it today see what I come up with the 24v battery is 8 years old so I’m thinking of just replacing both with 2, 12v batteries.

2FB55375-FD2E-4A3A-AAD7-D111D9F77FD6.jpgThey have this 6v commercial battery in the truck with a 12v. NAPA says to find out for sure what truck needs. Told him I wanted two 12v batteries. I have no idea why there would be a 6v and 12v

This doesn't make any sense. How would you get 29V out of a 6V and a 12V. If they were connected in series it would be about 19V. I would get 2 new 12V batteries to install. Depending on the battery box dimensions you might be able to fit 2 group 31 batteries in. I used group 27 as they fit better.

One battery is shot said there’s no cranking amps left. I got a new NAPA battery I think I’m going to go back and get a second 12v he said he wasn’t sure I should buy 2 12v and fry and I told him the trucks 24v system I no for a fact. It throws me off bc that 6v battery is a three cell and has 13.6 v and the other battery is said is a 12 volt and that’s reading 29.2 on my multi meter and 13.6 on his. I’m just buying two new 12v and be over with the weird situation
