OEM Filter Question - Leaking and not sure if it was the temp sensor

I'm waiting on my FFM FTB Spin on filter from Leroy I ordered earlier this week and was taking a look at the OEM filter to understand how it was leaking.

I'm pretty sure that it was leaking out of this port (red arrow). What is its purpose?

I took apart the filter housing thinking the temp filter was the issue, but after destroying it getting it out, it still had its gasket and looked good to go.

It looks like there's a bead of solder or something in there and I'm thinking about throwing some JB weld in there. Any thoughts?
