Old head gasket ... new head gasket

How does one determine if they have the old style head gasket or the new style head gasket ... without pulling the heads? Is there a way?

I got as creative as I could imagine with a search and couldn't come up with a clear answer.

I DID see that the new style gasket can NOT be re-torqued, but the old style can be re-torqued.

I think.

If you have the old style, you can see a tab sticking out between the heads and the block.

Post #15 in this thread shows a picture. You can see the tab to the left on the first picture, to the right on the second. The "pink" are the old style gaskets, the "black" are the new.
