Well, the moment of truth. I packed the new oil pump with Vaseline per instructions from several members

Spent a hot minute lining up the offset for the distributor and stabbed her home.

Next... time to fire up and hope for oil pressure...

We have pressure!

Then I went to address the gasket leak on the thermostat housing..... nope... she was fighting me again...

Fortunately I had a spare lying around the shop and got her together.

I have to replace the oil pan gasket and oil pressure sending unit, but this morning, she moved under her own power.

Time to clean and organize the shop...

Today I changed out the oil pan gasket (the filler blocks add some time, but do a great job holding the gasket in place!), replaced the oil pressure sensor and tuned the carb.

Then my A-driver and chief mechanic and I took her for a low speed short test drive.

Tomorrow will be longer and I'll test her at speed.

Fuel pump or blocked needle and seat in the carb? My stock engine would just turn off while driving due to crud in the tank blocking off the needle and seat. I was running 2 see thru fuel filters and carrying a few spares for a while. I finally pulled the tank, had it boiled clean and all was well.

However, if it is the actual fuel pump. The diaphram doesn’t like the ethanol in the modern gasoline. A company called then and now makes rebuild kits that work:

The filter was dry. I pulled the pump and stroked it by hand and it was moving fuel. I am going to pull the valve cover today and make sure the eccentric is driving it and move forward from there, as the last thing I touched in that circuit was the eccentric. It may ha e loosened up.
