Anyone see this? Upgraded suspension package called the TAK-4 that Oshkosh is fitting to Marine Corps HMMWVs recently. Not sure if this kit is available surplus yet, but it sure looks tough!

Picture: stock HMMWV on left, HMMWV with TAK-4 suspension on right.

Well that's neat. I knew they were doing this to Cougar MRAP's but had no clue they were doing this to HMMWV's. It's based on the suspension components of the MTVR truck and is also a factory type set-up on the M-ATV MRAP's.

...so does it come with a bigger rubberband to cope with all that extra tire! ...and extra driver training to stop the "hooo raaahs" from tipping them over?

Last I heard, and that could have changed, they did a few of them as a test for the military. The military decided to simply go with the MRAP rather than upgrade all the HUMVEE's. The only real problem they had with them was they still needed to be repowered becasue of all that extra weight then coupled with the extra weight of the armor refit.

FINALLY! A HMMWV that almost equals the original Unimogs in capability....! How many years do you figure it took them to figure this one out? The S404/408's were the first MRAP's when converted by the South African Army as Buffalos back in the 1960-1970 period.....:grd:

So did they actually get a contract to build that stupid thing?

And yet, the HMMWV was never really designed for the duty that it has been put through...

Mod'd HMMWV doesn't look top-heavy at all.

I find it interesting that TAK-4 is the same name that Pierce Manufaturing (fire trucks) uses for it's independant front suspension package.

Just for fyi Pierce is right up the road from and is owned by Oshkosh. :)
