Aloha All,

We just got our hands on a pretty nice M1009 shipped here from Calif. a couple years ago. Would like to start the restor/refurbish process and looking for advice on Paint for Hawaii. I know, boo hoo, poor thing, lives in Hawaii, but seriously, the sun & salt here dissolves EVERYTHING METAL. Before this happens, any ideas for sources of really good sun & salt resistant paints AVAILABLE in Hawaii? Rapco and ArmyJeepParts will not ship to me, and it sounds like maybe they don't have the best fade resistant paint anyway. Can't quite wrap my head around painting it with Latex from Home Depot either. Would like to do a somewhat correct 3 color camo, but not a purist. This will be our daily driver, we want it to last, not a show truck.

Mahalo!

WRT shipping if you wanted to go with Rapco, I'm sure you could work something out with a west coat member to buy here and then package up and ship down there somehow.

Latex hasn't given me the best results on anything metal on my house here. Coated decking screws even bubbling rust through the paint in 2 years. Only thing surviving is the Simpson ties we pre-painted with Rustoleum then latex over top just to match.

Just found a "recipe" for Rustoleum Olive Drab on a Jeep forum. Might try that out for the base. 1qt Hunter green, 1qt red primer. Maybe if we do a heavy semi-gloss clear coat it won't go all white powdery in a year like the flat does.

The second I saw your thread I pictured one of my deuces all camo'd up in hyacinth, hibiscus, bougainvillea...bright orange, red and yellow flower patterns. We'll put that on the bucket list for a future project.....and the flower thread. Welcome to Steel Soldiers..lol.

These guys paint ships, submarines, aircraft, oilfield....and they were right across the creek in California. http://www.endura.ca/

I don't see the Cali depot (Can Am) for some reason but if you're going long term, near the ocean, Poly Urethane's will be up near the top of the list for durability.

I checked to see if I could fill a box and throw it on a plane and that is a no go. You'd think shipping a box of paint across the ocean wouldn't cost much because the ship is headed that way anyhow.....

Here's a poly out of Australia http://www.duluxprotectivecoatings.com.au/

Another option might be a marine enamel with a local supplier matching a paint code. http://www.cloverdalepaint.com/contractor_professional/product.asp?code=111series

Really looking forward to some pictures with Hawaii in the background and a cup of Kona.
