Painted the M35A3 Today (pics)

Well, we finally painted the M35A3 which we recently acquired for our volunteer fire department. Today the truck changed from camo to red. It isn't a show car paint job but it beats the paint job on our old M35A2 which had been applied with a brush.

Ah man give the guy some slack! We all should know by now " Global Warming is a MYTH " its all part of a really big cycle. THe .gov just wants to make money off it and its easier to scare the people with GW theories! The paint aint doin nothin but getting folks a quick high, but unfortunely these guys are wearing respirators!:wink:


THe Big RED DEUCE! is looking pretty good! Who doesnt like red heads?
I have a few in my ( OD Green's ) collection! Now paint them tanks!

Just curious if yall have filled those tanks up with water yet? Ours ended op squatting pretty heavy in the rear with just one of those "pods" on the back. Alot more than the a2 duece it was on previously. Moving the tank forward aleviated ths problem. Looks good, hurry up and put it in service, its about to be that time of year again.

We haven't filled these new tanks yet. They are 600 gallon tanks like we have on our A2. It is a pretty good load on the A2. It is always fun going up any kind of a grade on the way to a fire with a full load of water. Nothing like running code 3 at 20 mph. :mrgreen: We have always joked that if the neighboring mutual aid departments need support from our A2 tender they need to give us at least a one day advance notice. ;-) The A3 has the same springs as the A2 but I have heard from others that the tires on the A3 need to be at max pressure to have any stability with that kind of weight. We do put the tanks all the way to the front of the bed and mount the pump in the rear. Eventually when we get the 3000 gallon tender (a donated 1976 Kenworth) built we will probably turn the A3 into a big brush truck with just one of the 600 gallon tanks. One other thing that should help is that these tanks are baffled where the tanks on our A2 are not. You definitely did NOT want to drive the A2 with the tanks only partially full. :shock: I agree we may need this truck soon. Thankfully this has been a really quiet year for wildland fires in our area.

I gotta good friend in Roff, thats gotta duece my dad sold him. Ol Cinco Roos he's always on fire watch at the ranch. So he's converted it for a water truck, hay truck, caker truck, weed spray and a beer drinker truck. all of these are on skids that slide in the bed except the beer drinker. he'll be in boots.... haha:p

I hear that. We hav the m35a3 brush truck and a m818 1500 gallon tanker and they definatly give some meaning to the word slow. Chances are though if its a big enough fire that if these trucks are rolling though there are already several more on scene or enroute.
Our ours we have the same 600 gallon tank but only one of them. On our a2 the skid was mounted with the tank at the rear and pump and hose reel to the front. We set up the a3 the same way and it looked kinda low in the back. (You are right though, it was at the tires and not actually at the springs). We turned the skid around, putting the tank at the front and it seems fine now. It drives good on the road but we havent had it on a fire yet. Definately post some pics when yall get it completed.

I just drove the truck back to the fire department. Now we just need to move the hard top over from the A2, paint the tanks, install the radio, install the siren, run all of the plumbing, and install the pump. Hmmm, I think we need more hours in the day. ;-)

Here are a couple more pictures of the truck back at the station next to the 1967 M35A2 that it is replacing. Before you ask, the A2 has to be returned to the state forestry service. :cry:
