I frequently run 6x6 and 4x4 mil trucks in soft sand (ankle to calf deep). The 4x4 trucks do fine. The 6x6 trucks often "buck" on the rear axles as they pivot. A set of shocks to stabilize the free movement of the axles pivoting about the center mount stops this.

As for the LMTV specifically... it does great in the soft stuff. Deep mud too.

There is a truck pull coming up in a month or so. I did real well a few years ago with my m931a2. I was going to try the m1078 this year. I like the pushbutton low range I don't know how it compares to the gearing on my old trucks low range. I know I only have the one low gear.
