Pioneer tool sources

Back when I had hundreds of NOS pioneer tool racks (all gone now) I did the research to cross NSN's to civilian manufacturers and did test fitments to get sources of the right tools for my customers. Here is what I found, so it may save everyone some headaches searching:

Axe:
Premium quality is the Council American Felling Axe http://amzn.to/1FYfiYG
Lower cost (still great quality) Council Dayton Axe http://amzn.to/1QzNios

Shovel:
Best quality Rigid D handle http://amzn.to/1HMFkCA
Lower cost Ames True American D Handle http://amzn.to/1HME5n5

Pick:
Best quality has the head and handle separate
Head Graintex 5lb http://amzn.to/1QzPNqV
If you get this you will also need a handle:
Seymour 36” Hickory Handle http://amzn.to/1BeFzpc (this option is best on the pick)
A Lower Cost option is the Truper 5lb pick mattock fiberglass handle http://amzn.to/1FYhE9Z

Edited to add that all these worked when I did the research about a year ago, but sometimes manufacturers change specs. If one doesn't work Amazon will take it back no questions asked, and please post here so I can update the list. And if possible post pictures of exactly what you got and the model #s and markings.

The HMMWV shovel is the one you have to watch most, it requires a slightly shorter handle than most come with and shorter than the ones that work with the other style racks don't always work with the HMMWV.

Thanks Chief for the info on the shovel. The ames worked perfect and I went with it as it was cheapest. Ordered from a Epay vendor who also is on Amazon $23 shipped free by amazon USPS and delivered on a Sunday priority. No clue how these people make money this way.

The ax and mattox/handle I already had and the tags were long gone. The mattox head is stamped India but nothing else.

I also added 2 straps to make it rock solid. Nothing is moving or coming off. These were from a m931 mudflap holder kit by the tool box from a scrap truck. Long maybe 3o inches or so. I just looped around everything individually as many wraps as the length let me.

Not quite military but I finally ordered a murderspork. Sadly, they were out of OD ones.
