All,
To keep this post clean, I've decided to restart it.
This is an 90 BMY M932a2
It is possible on a recent trip, that my fuel may have been "modified" by some less than good intentions from some people.
The quick and dirty of what has happened, and what has occurred since.
1) Filled the tank up to the chain in the tank. I used standard (apparently junk) #2 diesel while travelling through Nebraska. I have verified this by the receipt.
2) Drove the truck (which ran perfect and has been inspected by multiple parties) approximately 25 miles before it started to sound like the engine was knocking. I immediately pulled over to inspect.
3) No issues were present other than the sound of the engine. Not any noticeable loss in power.
4) It had been a long, nearly 800 mile drive up until that point. So, thinking that perhaps I was just tired and knitpicking about a noise, it was accepted that perhaps I just hadn't noticed the sound previously. So, I drove the remaining 200 miles without any issue (minus the sound)
5) The truck is still performing about as normal other than the noise, which I asure you, does not sound like other trucks I've heard
I did notice last night, that there appears to be more smoke than before. Again, maybe I just didn't notice in my excitement of the road trip. The engine has less than 5k on it (total).
The fix I am going to try
1) Drain tank, clean out with an approved method via the local trucking company.
2) Blow out all lines
3) Replace all fuel filters
Hopefully this will fix it. If not, I have a friend who is a big line diesel tech for a huge outfiit here in Denver. He will inspect the engine and all necessary items upon my return from Canada in a few weeks.
