I have a 1985 HMMWV and the return hose keeps cracking and leaking at the pump. The hose is just secured with a simple hose clamp, I have replaced the hose and use new hose clamps. I am using ATF for power steering fluid, it seems the hose gets brittle and then leaks. I've cut the end of the hose off reclamped it, bought new hose so on and so on.
This hose comes from the hydroboost, could the hydroboost be bad that it is sending to much pressure through that hose? I dont have a problem with my brakes or steering.
Could it be the atf fluid? should i switch to powersteering fluid? I know the hose is the correct type, I know the hose clamp is on the right way blah blah blah
Is there an upgrade to this whole system? it seems kinda "light" for the vehicle and its use. I have gone through 3 P.S. pumps in about 7 years. i offroad my HMMVW and use it for what it was made for but I'm very frustrated with the power steering system, can anyone help please.
