Question about a 13 speed Fuller in M818....

I got a Big Cam III 350 horse Cummins with a Fuller 13 speed that I'm planning to instal in my M818.
Im planning to operate the T-case with a manual air switch on the shifter that i switch when I change from forward to reverse and back to forward.
Question....has anybody tried to operate the 5-ton T-case in that way.....with a manual switch....should work right.....or am I overlooking somthing?

Any input on this subject would be welcomed.....

I would think you could use a heavy duty electric solonoid.....the manual lever actuates the LOW/HIGH via a straight shaft that goes into the TF case.....should be an easy install if you can find one that will slide the shaft in and out.
I have been considering the same thing for my deuce.

I'm not trying to get rid of the hi-lo shift lever in my 5-ton thought.
My issue is that the current tranny has the air-valve built in to the top cover that operate the sprag in the T-case depending if you are in forward or reverse.
With the Fuller tranny that feature is no longer available.....so I'm thinking manual air valve on the shifter.

Has anyone tried to operate the 5 ton T-case with a manual valve in the cab?

Just for clarification, you're talking about operating the sprag, and not the range, correct? If so, I don't believe there's any reason that you can't do what you described.

Yes, that is correct Henry.

I just thought that maybe someone has tried it and knows if it works.....and maybe what kind of valve function one has to use to operate the sprague in the T-case.

The 5ton transmission air control only shifts the sprag when you go to reverse. All other gears and neutral have the sprag in the forward position. I would consider an air solenoid valve controlled by the reverse light switch.

Soni, what you are asking is capable of being done. I asked this same question a while back and it was a go but we were talking about taking the air shift lever from a deuce and adding it to the 5 ton t-case so when you flipped the engage switch it locked the sprag for 6x6. So it would be the same concept but your would be a different air valve on your shifter.

Please take as many pictures along your install as you can. That sounds like a very nice setup. I've wanted to put something like that (eventually) in my XM-813.

There is speculation that if you shut off the air to the transfer case, it will leave the sprag in neutral and not engage at all.

That or if you were to swap a 939 series transfer in, you would then have an air shift transfer case instead of sprag which could free up some drag on the powertrain.

Just more food for thought.

I just want to see how well that transmission fits in there, and how well the front driveshaft clears it!
