I have a newly acquired MEP-003a. One of the things wrong with it was the Solenoid not functioning, or being intermittent.
I was getting voltage to it. IT just didn't seem to want to work. I read someone found a replacement for a Tractor that would fit, But Could not find the link
again. I did not want to spend $400 + for a new one.
So, I TOOK IT APART !
It was actually very easy.
I Carefully remove each of the nuts without rotating the stud. Patience..
I Remove the lock washers and phenolic washers.
I Then lightly tap on the housing as you push it apart.
What I found once inside was a pair of contacts (Points)
I gently pried them up some and saw some burn marks which is normal.
I took some 600 grid (what I had on hand) sand paper and put it inside the contacts.
With light pressure on the top of the contact I pulled the paper several times through.
I did this for each of the 4 contact points (tops and bottoms)
I then tested the solenoid while cover was still off by applying power.
ITS WAS ALIVE Again!
I Put it all back together, Used some No-ox compound ( antisieze).
I Sand both sides of each nut a little to shine them up for a good contact.
I Reinstall it.
My Mep-003a now shuts off again. Without me buying a new one.
I can now celebrate with a cold one or two.
