What is the wire for, that comes out of the front of the M35 steering gear box; and where does it go?

I thought that was used to supply the inverse reactive current needed to provide the automatic synchronization of the cardinal grammeter.
Don't be silly! If you hook the wire up that way, the muffler belt will slip on the cylinder wall, and throw a packet out of the gearbox in the rearend!
