Replacing pto winch with electric

Anyone else ever decide to swap from pto winch to a 25k sherpa or 18k warn? 99.9% of the time I’m by myself out in the middle of the woods. The couple times I’ve had to winch myself out I think it would of been a 1000 times easier with an electric winch. And I’m usually alone when I need to respool it straight. Last time I got it kinked and had to cut some cable off. Any reason not to make the switch?

I put a Sherpa on mine. I only use it if I get stuck. they also have a synthetic rope option, but you still have to spool it on half ass straight or ti will tuck under and wont free wheel out next time.

I'm planning on doing the same thing and the argument for the PTO is that it's much stronger than the electric. Though I think the lighter weight, simplicity, and ease of use make the electric a winner for most regular folks.

Put a hydraulic motor on it and then you can have multiple control points.

I've done it with two sprockets, a bit of Browning chain, and a piece of flat plate. Tuck the motor under the winch.

Drive the pump from either the original PTO or a fan belt.

Lots cheaper than either of those electric jobs.

Sheesh.
