im looking to buy a m1008 cucv, The truck is pretty rust free except surface rust on the hood and some minor spot in the doorjam. i plan on having someone else repaint the entire truck in carc according to military specs. I dont know the knowlage to paint, but i probably can do the grunt work and get rid of the surface rust. How would i deal with surface rust on the hood? i know i gotta sand but what tools and grit? The spot in the door looks a little deeper than surface but no where near all the way through, is bondo easy to use and sand even? im thinking i can save money by sanding the rust away and just paying someone to paint instead of doing both.
Also, i noticed while looking at it it has a bunch of metal hooks/loops under the top of the bed on the sides of the truck. one every few inches mounted by 2 small screwed. Some of these are rusted and the rust has run onto the carc paint. I dont want to paint over these rusty hooks or leave them how they are. If i remove them im gonna have a bunch of little holes in the side of the truck. How can this be fixed? Can you use bondo in the little holes sand and paint over it? Otherwise i would try to salvage the hooks and paint them too but it doesnt look like thats possible. Any advice? I want this thing looking nice, authentic military. Thankswire brush to the hooks maybe?
