Probably the most prevalent issue with these trucks, leaking fuel lines sucking air. Unfortunately the unit injector scheme engines are very tolerant of it, and the leakage has to get pretty bad to cause actual running issues. It will cause hard starting and starter/electrical system wear, and air will ultimately cause injector wear… About the only way to see it when running before it gets so bad as to cause running issues, is with a primary fuel pressure gauge. But if it is not firing within 1-2 seconds of cranking, that should be a very large clue… if its really cold, you should have something coming out the exhaust pipe within 3-4 seconds of cranking…
