runflats, good or bad?

I'm putting new tires on my M1078. I have taken two wheels apart so far and to my surprise they both have Hutchinson 1 piece runflats in them insted of the beadlock insert that my spare has. Should I use these in the new tires? Anyone know what affect they have on driveability, especially at speed? They are super heavy and I wonder how they will affect ballance. I'm planning on adding ballance beads. Anyone have any first hand knowledge with these?

They are fine. Just not fun to reinstall.

You can use Balance beads with a runflat since you have to have the lubrication soap in there and the beads will just stick to it.

I run runflats in everything. Mine are the bolt together type.

I've ran the solid ones. Tires wear out in 40k miles but that is normal.

I figure I could wash the lube out and dry it before putting the beads in. Maybe I will use them since I have them. They're pretty expensive if you had to buy them.

Keep the runflats, it saved me from being stuck on the side of the street changing the humvee tire, changing a 37in tire on the side of the street is no fun, now imagine having to do a 46inch inch tire on a M1078 on the side of the street.

Sounds like overwhelming replies to keep them, so I guess I will. Just wondering how the ride compares to no runflats. I haven't had mine at freeway speed, so I really don't know what the ride is like. These things are so heavy that the centrifical force could smooth things out and maybe also make the tire more balanced?

Turns out only 2 tires had the runflats installed. Getting it out took about 20 different setups before it worked. 2 mega large ratchet straps to hold the tire to the M1078. Strap through the runflat attached to my 12000 lb winch on my truck. Was just pulling my truck and wheel chocks down the driveway. Finally had another strap on the back of the truck attached to a tree. It was like the tire was giving birth in slow motion. It weighs 132 lbs! Question, I am planning on swapping my tires at some point which are mounted on HEMTT steel wheels (Pictured mounted on my rig below). I purchased a set of 8 tires on MRAP aluminum wheels (See Pic Below). I was told they have the run flat unit in them already. Question is will this run flat work on my Steel HEMTT wheel? I was told recently by someone who should know this that they almost fit but are not usable with a HEMTT wheel. Anyone have experience with this?

All of my tires have the run flats. MRAP rims/395's. The thing is, no run flat and you get a blow out, you're dead in the water. We've all changed a tire on the side.of the road at some point, but it's not something one wants to do, especially on a busy street, or worse, the interstate. At least the run flat can get you off the interstate or the busy street and to a safe place to change the tire. Really don't want to run the truck on it's rim or the rim will likely be no good. I don't know about the run flats on MRAP rims over to the HEMTT rims, but I imagine there are run flats for those rims.

There are Hutchinson 3-piece bolt-together run flats that can be bought pretty cheap ($50/ea?). That's what I put in.

BONUS: If you use those, then you don't even have to bother trying to get the old ones out!

Where can I find them for $50? The only ones I've found are $275 each.

Guido where did you find those? I’m getting ready to build a crapload of tires up

Which rims are you running. Combat or HEMTT or ?

Runsflats interchange between tires as long as they are 20inch they don't care what the wheel is.
