As September 11, 2011 approaches, this marks the 10th Anniversary of another day that will live in Infamy. This definately was a day where each and every one of us knew where we were and what we were doing that day. There are many events planned throughtout the United States, as well as around the world, to bring rememberance to that day. I thought I'd start this thread for all who plan on attending an event with their MV's or simply themselves. I would like to know what everyone is doing to "outfit" their MV's for this day of remembrance.
Our local leadership is planning a Remebrance/Patriotic event at Stewart Field in Aberdeen, WA. They are having the USARNG Band coming down as well as other members of the local fire dept and police depts. Surprisingly they notified me that they don't plan on having my M35A2 included in the event as a static display. However they did request I show up in my Class A's. Well, they certainly cannot control what I can drive to the event;). I DO plan on driving my '68 M35A2 to the event adorned with the proper Red, White, and Blue. I found it surprising that NONE of the leadership putting this event on ever served in the military. Nor have they served in public service.

I have a football game on Sept. 10t. That game is dedicated to all those who fell on that day, and to my friends and all of those servicemen who have fallen since then.

We are truly lucky.

To mark the 10th Anniversary of September 11th, several pastors in the area have organized a day of Prayer and Remembrance for Patriot Day. What first started as just a day to get local churches together for prayer, has turned into a County-wide event. They're expected to have the Washington National Guard and Band down for the event on Sunday. The organizers have also requested that ALL currently serving Military/Police/Fire to wear their Class A uniforms for the event. I plan on driving my '68 M35A2 to the event. Not as a static display, but as a moving memorial for those who lost their lives on September 11th and after.
I found it appropriate to stencil on "UNITED WE STAND" on the side engine panels. I also ordered a memorial flag online to place on the back of the truck.

If you are local and want to attend this event, here are the details:

Meeting place: Aberdeen, WA at Stewart Field
Starting Time: 1800 hrs (NG band to start playing at 1730 hrs)
End Time: Between 1930-2000 hrs or later

If anyone is coming down we can organize a little convoy to the event. I will already be in Aberdeen at our evening service but plan on leaving the service early so I can get a parking spot at the event.

I think that this is all great! I know that I wll catch he77 for this one but I can't help myself. However, what really puts a burr under my saddle is the fact that there are a lot of other things that have happened prior to 911. For instance, to name a few that I have been involved with, Barracks in Beirut Bombed 23 October 1983: 241 Killed; Khobar Towers bombed in Saudi on 25 June 1996, 19 Killed; USS COLE on 12 October 2000 with 17 killed, and US Embassies at Dar Es Salaam Tanzania and Nairobi Kenya bombed 7 August 2000 with hundreds killed, and there are many more examples it is just that I was involved in these particular ones. I guess the difference is that they all happened overseas and not within the boarders of the Contenential US. But we do not remember the other things as they were out of sight and therefore out of mind. What about the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City that killed 168 people on 19 April 1995. I was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma when that one happened but we do not remember that one either and it happened within the contenential US. So we remember 911 and I agree with that as it was truly tragic and so where all the other bombings and attacks. Maybe the US Government should create a national day of mourning for all tragic bombings to be remembered and not just 911. Maybe you and everyone, like me, should write their Senators and Representatives to start a movement to have an official day of Mourning for all tragic loss of life to be remembered. Maybe Obama can sign that into law and do something good and actually earn that Nobel Peace Prize.
I know that I am crying sour grapes but it really makes me mad that what has happened overseas to our military men and women that server to give us Americans the right of freedom are often forgotten by those that they serve. The other issue that I have about 911 is the "Hero Status" bestowed upon the First Responders as a result of 911. I will not get into that one at this time but prior to 911 the first responders were never even thought of even though they did the same job before 911 and still do the same job after 911. I think that people need to realize and not forget what has allowed the Americans to enjoy what they have today and what they will enjoy tomorrow. God Bless all those that have given the ultimate sacrifice in the assistance of others and for the protection of our great nation! It is not just about 911. So I would request that everyone sit down and reflect on the past and all the tragic events that have happened not only in the US but abroad as well and remember all the unsung heros that have made your way of life possible today.

I'll say what I truly feel elsewhere, I know if I post my feelings about 9/11 and the perpetrators I will make Hitler look like Mickey Mouse.

I will say this:

I pray for the families of those lost in the attacks, and may God bless the United States of America and it's citizens.

There's a Flag run/walk vigil planned over here on Joint Base Balad, that I'm taking part in. I wish I could be home for the anniversary, I would definitely be flying the stars and stripes from the front bumper.

My guess is there are more than a few in the Steelsoldiers community that lost someone they knew on this terrible day. I honor all who perished that day. I would like to specifically remember my squadron mate and most of all my friend, Capt Jack D. Punches, USN who lost his life in the Pentagon. To Jack, fair winds and following seas. We will never forget.

I read yesterday there was a pres decree to fly flags at half staff/mast for the day. My flag does not to half staff so I need to get some black ribbon to tie on the staff.

OK to get back on track, my township FD is recreating a float they did in 2002 originally. They were asked to redo the float for the Delaware All Horse Paraded tomorrow. The float is a recreation of the famous photo of the the firefighters raising a flag over the rubble of the trade towers. The float is goiing to be pulled by 6-8 Black Percheron horses with a black leather and chrome harness. It will be followed by a riderless horse with the boots it the stirrups backwards, the Ohio Firefighter's and Shamrock Pipes and Drums, and we hope to have 343 Firefighters, Police, EMT's and Military marching behind to represent the 343 fallen heros. They're going to lead the All Horse Parade, and stop in the center of town for a memorial and ringing of the bell. I'll post some pics later.

Folks, please leave the politics and religious comments off the site.

BTW, I'm proud to mention that I was asked to display a truck tomorrow at our county airport, along with a fire truck and police car. There will be an brief ceremony to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11/01.

One more thing. Today(by chance) I was in the same exact place I was on 9/11/01. Just an interesting coincedence.

I'll try to post a few pics of tomorrows display.
