After previewing a M809 series Machine Shop truck for another member last year, I have been on the look-out for one. With the price of the trucks being fairly high, I was lucky enough to find this trailer.
It is a Southwest body with a build date of 1982. The vast majority of the tooling inside still has the original paper tags with the '82 date and item # still on it. I found the power unit to have 41 hours on both meters, and most of the trailer seems to not have much, if any, use. The drill press and the air compressor, for example, still have the original factory inspection papers hanging from them.
One unusual thing is the 27" Southbend lathe. All of the others I have seen all have a much smaller lathe in them. This one seems to be original and practically unused. It is still packed in cosmoline, and the ways are mint.
We went to recover it with a buddy's road tractor, and after airing up the tires, the trailer ran 65 MPH down the interstate without any issues.
A fairly uneventful recovery, although we were equipped for almost anything.
A big "thank-you" to my brother for helping me on the inspection and recovery!
