Skytrak 6000m Question

First post here so if i violate any rules let me know.

I just purchased (a few months ago) a skytrak 6000m. Anybody out there got one? Mine had a few problems which I have mostly fixed. I am wondering about 3rd gear though. The machine is supposed to go 25mph on 3rd gear. Not that I really need to do this but mine doesn't really get going fast in 3rd unless in am on flat ground or down hill. Is this typical or do I have a torque conv or clutch problem. Wondering what 3rd is like on someone else's machine.

What a great machine by the way!

I havent gone very fast in mine. I think the manual says 23mph max speed. There were 2 different cummins 5.9 engines used the newer engine with the inline pump has more power. The older motor used a ve rotary pump. I think it weighs around 27000lbs its a bit underpowered for its weight. I only use it for unloading stuff I cant get with my smaller forklift. It will lift more than 6000lbs though I have lifted some pretty heavy stuff with it.

Same use here really. Mine has the ve pump. It is not so much engine power but what seems to be a lot of slip between the engine and wheels in 3rd. I assume it is in the torque converter but not sure. No problem really because I don't need it. The one thing I hope i don't have on this thing is drive train problems. How much have you lifted with it? I am buying, I think, a 10k lb lathe that I hope to unload with it. No reach just lift off the truck, pull the truck out, lower the machine, set in building. Think it will work? I have spent a lot of time comparing the specs to the commercial telehandlers and the load charts on the commercial ones de-rate from max right away while the 6000m is rated for 6k out to about 15' in front of the wheels.

I have had a few of these machines and currently have one. Make sure your trans oil is at the right level with machine in neutral and running. There is about a 2-3 gal difference with the machine running and not running.i have picked up close to 12000 pounds with one of my machines. They are very underrated.

I did change all fluids and filters except the main hydraulic. Still need to accumulate a few more buckets before I tackle that. My trans fluid was low when i got it and I noticed what you said. I brought up to the proper range while running. I figured on the under rating but glad to hear it from someone who has tested it.

Probably sounds crazy but I plan to put a back-up camera on mine. Man is it hard to see behind with that machine. I changed out the lights on the cab, the move able ones, for LED lights. Maybe heretical to many of you collectors but functionally a big improvement. I plan to do the rear lights and the boom light too.

If your torque converter was bad or malfunctioning you would notice slip in all the gears. Each gear has it own clutch pack so if third gear is slipping most likely the clutch pack slipping and not a converter issue.

I have a m6000 which has a leaking radiator. Just wondering if anyone has a service manual for the machine or a part number for JLG, or if the base unit cross references with an non military unit? thanks
