Smart phone app

It sure would be nice to have a smart phone app that connects to the SS forum.

iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry - whatever. I know that some other forums that use the same forum software have iPhone/iPad capability. One I know of provided it free (I think, maybe it was .99) and the other charged 3.99. Both were worth it as it is very handy to be able to pull up forum posts from your smart phone (doing it via the native phone web browser usually does not work too well).

Maybe a vote to elicit opinions/demand for this feature?

Isnt there one already called iTap?
I am not familiar with that. I do know that other forums that use the same software as SS sell apps, and they work pretty good (easy access to subscribed threads, for example).

Is iTap a generic forum app?

Thought SS was a INTERNET site, designed and set up for INTERNET ACCESS and USE, NOT for smart phone use, if smart phones can access the site fine, if not all well, don't see ANY REASON for a phone ap, same with the itap crap, if someone post to the site, it should not need a SPECIAL downloaded program to view it.

I disagree with the stated premise. By the same logic, I guess you should not carry any tools around with you for a roadside repair, since repairs are supposed to be done in shops.

The name of the game is mobility. Internet does not equal a laptop/deskitop computer. It equals availability to information. Sometimes you are mobile. Sometimes, you might be at work (some employers block SS as it turns up as a 'gun' list on the daily no-no web site feed). Maybe you are in HD and need the formula for the CARC substitute. There are a million reasons 'why'.

From a technical perspective, mobile devices handle web sites differently than a regular old PC, so it makes a lot of sense to use a mobile version of the target site.

It should not matter what device anyone uses at any moment in time. That is what mobility is all about.

This might also end up generating some additional income for SS as I would gladly pay for the app. I'm sure others would, too.

theres tap-a-talk (i think thats the name) for android. i agree that as technology advances, so should the access. that falls into the "IF ITS TO LOUD, YOU'RE TO OLD" category tho. dont feel bad, i got the same narrow minded lecture when i mentioned the problem too

My company builds iphone, android and iPad apps as well as responsive websites. I'd be willing to build something for not a lot of money. I don't want to advertise in the forums, so this is where I stop.

I post on here all the time from my android. It always works, but it would be a nice addition to have an app, and it would definitely make posting easier, as all the resolutions would be converted to something more fitting for a mobile device. Said app would not change the function of the normal SS site at all.

This topic has been addressed before.

The application is " Tap A Talk". I think the price is $3.99.

I've been using it since February when Verizon first got the iPhone.

It's not perfect, but works well enough for accessing the forums.

I just use the Safari web browser on my iphone and have never had any problems at all. Of course I've never tried uploading any pictures from it as I've never had a need and can't imagine being at HD and have an "I need to upload a picture" emergency (not to say it CAN'T happen it just hasn't).

Personally I think this is one of those "I want it and I want it NOW" kind of things our society has evolved into. Too many people expect everything to work perfectly everywhere all the time. Would it be nice if it did? Sure. Is it the end of the world if it doesn't? Don't think so.

Tapatalk works just fine for a mobile app, I have it on my iPad and iPhone. It takes a bit to get used to but everything you need is here, including the ability to upload pics. It doesn't have actual smilies but if you know the code to type in you can still get smilies ex : ) = :) and so on...

Be not afraid people! The new cellphone internet access technology is awesome!
But not all phones fit the bill and using one for internet access takes some practice.
Imho hardware is important, one with a large high resolution touch screen works the best,if the phone has a tiny screen, viewing and navigating websites will be frustrating to say the least.my service provider is sprint and i just recently upgraded from the HTC evo to the Samsung galaxy s2,this phone has one of the largest high res screens on the market ,android os,duel core processor (really fast)and a 8 megapixle camara / video camera with flash that takes better pictures than some high end cameras, and is one of the few phones that will post pics to the ss forum without a downloaded app!

What i can do from my phone 24/7: deposit checks into my bank acct, check balances, transfer $$ between accts ,buy parts off of ebay or any other website (yes, even GL and SS)and pay for it via paypal or card, send and receive email,us it as a very accurate navigation device, calculate, schedule, get this..speak into it when i can't figure out how to spell and have the word auto insert into text, find out the answer to any question on the face of the planet via Google, scan barcodes for product info, use it as a very accurate bubble level , compass, flashlight, decibel meter, morse code, POST PICS TO THE SS FORUM IN REAL TIME! and hundreds of other tasks via the free apps available through the android market, store and have access to thousands of pics, songs and documents, and last but not least..make a phone call!
My computer has become obsolete.

When phones can screen unwanted calls and block all solicitors, I'll call them Smart Phones.

I have a Smart Television, but all I can find is a bunch of stupid shows on the listings...
