special grease

Greetings friends,
I heard that John Deere had a grease that they recommended for old, leaky gear boxes. It is thick when put in but quickly liquefies when the gears are moving. I suppose all greases do this somewhat, but this is supposed to be something special.
I plan to use it in the steering knuckles on my M274, where the dust boots leak (they almost always leak).
Does anyone know of this special grease or have used it. Thanks!

Corn head grease. I don't know the specifics but that's the name. My gearbox have that grease in it. I drained it and put 90W in. If it leaks much I'll switch back.

I wouldn't try and make up for bad boots with thicker greases. I'd fix 'em, even though they're a major pain.


I have used the cornhead grease in steering boxes and winches with no problem. Your Mule application, I have not.

I've replaced hundreds of dust boots, but always looking for something new. No matter how good you think you've installed one, they always seem to pop off the back. There is no subitute for good lubrication, or installing new parts. I've got to replace one boot that has split, that's a "no brainer". Thanks for everyone's time and advise. When I try this, I'll report back on how it works.

I've just recently put it in 2 Braden 20K hydraulic winch's that had small leaks. Both trucks are scheduled for replacement this year so thought I would try it. So far so good. Most and combine gear box is certainly giving a work out. A winch is used less and much lower speeds.
