SRW'ing- is EVERYTHING needed already on truck?

just curious- when single rear wheeling, do you need any different parts? I was under the impression that you simply take off a hub here, reverse some bolts there and slap on your wheels. Am I being a little naive? I have MVM #79 and it appears that's what was done. But, I mentioned something to Alex at IMP and he said he didn't have the hubs needed to complete the swap. Do you need different hubs or are there several methods, one of which you can use all stock parts? I admit I'm confused

Don't be confused, arm yourself with tools and gear oil and grease and get to work. It's not quite as simple as just reversing the hubs but dang close. You will also have to press out the wheel studs, reverse them and press them back in. To do a textbook conversion you will also need to reverse the bearing races. According to textbook teaching, once a bearing and race break in together they should never be used with a different mate. Of course all of us at one time or another replaced a bearing or race without replacing its mate. Can you do the swap without moving races? Yup! Is it textbook? Nope! Sufficed to say, you need to move the brake drums to the other side of the hub as well. All in all, simple as it can get but it will take some time and effort to move all that steel & rubber. Just so you know, the 9:00X20 tire wheel combo weighs in at 171# or at least the last one I put on the scale did!

it does sound intensive- That's why I'm hoping Alex will do it <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_approve.gif" alt="Approve"> but except for new bearings then everything you'd need is already on the truck?

Yes it is. You can do it without replacing bearings too. If you were to do one wheel end at a time you could easily pull it down, remove the bearings and hammer out the races and swap sides. Although both bearings will fit in the race, only the bigger bearing will slide onto the inside of the caliper. If everything is in working order, you needn't buy anything but gear oil, grease and maybe seals. I've done a few dozen for the swamp buggy people around here but they don't want the races reversed. They figure that the buggy will never to 25 MPH. Haven't had anybody complain yet. I do warn them about that up front though.
