can autozone test a 24 volt starter? would the alternator have anything to do with starting? how do you use a voltmeter to test if the starter is getting power from the batterys.

Before you get blasted by everyone else......
do a search on the site.
This topic has been covered... over and over and over
Do some reading, learn a little and then ask questions.
Good first place to start is the Technical Manuals...
Also covered on the site

I will anser one of the questions...
The STARTER ALWAYS has power from the batteries when hooked up. The BIG RED wire from the battery runs directly, through the block on the firewall.

Autozone will just give you a dumb look. Take it to a shop that works on industrial equipment.

Many videos on Youtube that will show you how to work a voltmeter.

Dont waste your time pulling the starter untill you have verified a fault. Shotgun approach seems logical in the begining, but always ends up taking more time than a true systematic trouble shooting approach.
