Here are the "before" pics of Sweet Pea; picked her up from Ft Bragg Area:

I had to get creative with my flatbed trailer to get the width of the HMMWV over the wheel wells.

Seen here installing dynamat with the self-adhesive rubber diamond plate over top where the insulation was missing or otherwise rotting.

Additionally, the aviation-grade voice activated intercom with headsets is installed.

Since this is a family vehicle (of sorts), I did big self-adhesive velcro across the A & B pillars for morale patches that characterize the HMMWV and it's owners.

New seats, front seat covers, grenade shifter knob, kydex MOLLE panels on ceiling etc. as well. I wired the supplemental 12v system the intercom plugs in to on a switch on the underside of the radio tray.

Okay, to recap my posts in this thread, we know that I bought the M810 water truck from a friend of mine in May of this year. We also know that he kept the truck in a shed, and Wes hauled it home for me on a very rainy day. So what's the back story? Well, I'm glad you asked....


My friend purchased the M810 water truck from Government Liquidation in 2010 out of Carson City, Nevada. He has rural property here in Texas, and I believe his intent was to have a water truck for fire fighting (should the need arise). The truck had a bad radiator (which was visible in the GL auction pictures) and showed up with a bent tie rod (fork lift damage?). After taking delivery of the truck, my friend backed it into his shed. In 2011, he pulled the radiator and had it rebuilt. Then the truck sat untouched for nine more years until Wes pulled it out of the shed and hauled it home for me. (What... were you expecting a long story?) My friend has a wide variety of interests and many projects. The M810 water truck just didn't get any attention.

I did a lot of PM to Betty. All fluids, spin on filters, switch to 395's, fixed the ABS, rebuild PCB, new fuel lines, diesel fired cab heater, replaced an unknown amount of grease zerks, etc....

I use the truck quite often but I never seem to take pictures when I should. Here is the last of any pics for me.

Finally got a chance to spend some time with my Deuce yesterday and I located the frame S/N.

The Serial Number and Registration Number both match the information from the M35 Gas Deuce Spreadsheet posted here on SS.

Everything points to her being a 1952 so I will go with that!

Well, @Tracer, the answer is not yet.

I ran a few errands on Sunday and planned to stop by the M810 for some pictures. As I got close, it started pouring (remnants of Hurricane/TS Hanna). There’s something about this truck and heavy rain. On the flip side, it’s still dry inside the water tank.

Quaker, you probably already know this but just incase. That small hole right behind your left hand hood hinge is for your Hood Hook Assembly #7372767, there should be another hole outboard for the hook hold down clip. I'm bringing this up, as I had a leak at both of these holes on my truck that required body work to repair rust damage. If your not ready to install the hook assembly, just plug the holes with some RTV for the time being. This cowl area below the windshield is a nasty place for rust to start. Check under your dash to see what rust you might already have in that area, it's kind of an out of sight out of mind place, so give it a look see.

Thank you for the heads-up. I am also missing the clip for the hook so I do, indeed, have two holes in my cowl.

I was up under the dash in that area with a flashlight inspecting some wiring last weekend and I did not notice any unusual rust, but I was not specifically looking for it and I could have easily missed it. I certainly don't want my beautiful old girl to rust away from the inside so I will check it out this weekend and address any issues as soon as possible.

Quaker, let me add to this and then I'll shut up. Pull your Glove Box and take a look straight up, and look at the seam between the window frame and the cowling. This is usually spot welded together on the newer trucks (mine is a 71) and water can seep between the spot welds and start to rust in the seam causing separation. This picture of your truck looks to be the exterior of the window frame and cowling, you might want to take a look on the inside of this seam. This area looks like the rust has gotten a head start, hopefully it hasn't rusted through to the interior. I make an issue of this because you have a very nice older truck with tons of potential. I have seen many clean nice running M35s, eaten away by rust to the point where the owner had to replace the entire cab. I think one of our members did the cab swap recently on his M36 due to excessive rust. PS that part # 7372767 is for the entire Hood Hook Assembly including the clip.

Actually the picture is of the right rear of the bed and the rust is a lot more superficial than it looks in the picture...and there is plenty of steel left there.

Surprisingly the bed is in the worst condition, rust wise, on the whole truck. The metal of the cab, hood and fenders is in remarkably good shape even with all the flaking paint. Just a lot of surface rust that comes right off. But I will not be taking anything for granted with her and I will work to address any existing rust as best I can.

Per your advice I'll check out the cab and cowl closely this weekend and see what I find. Of course, that means more pictures to share with all of you

Yes, the bed is heavier gauge metal so you can sandblast the bed without hurting it. There's a lot of paint on your truck!

Yes there is. I've already found paint in some areas that is 1/4" thick...and not always just in the corners!

Someone was very liberal with the paint on a couple of occasions.

A Texas title came in the mail this week. It’s official, I’m the proud owner of a M810 WO/W. I know this because the data plate say so.
