Nobody likes a loose box!, so i took mine out of the deuce to replace the bushings. i tried adjusting it, but it did not work and you could see the pitman arm moving back and forth a little. I ordered the 2 bushings, seal and gasket from memphis. pulling the box was a pain as i had to jack the engine up a lot and use a porta-power and push the engine toward the passanger side to get it out. The bushings i got from memphis are better than OEM because they gave me two of the same bushings. these "same" bushings are like getting two of the inside bushings (the larger bushing in the pictures) The original outside bushing was shorter than the inside one (as seen in the picture). this now provides more bushing to shaft support. be careful when you put the bushings in because there is an oil hole so oil can flow inside between the two bushings and you do not want to block that. the new bushings come close to totally closing that gap up if you drive the bushings in too far. im not sure what the TM says off hand, but you dont need much of a gap between the bushings for oil to get in. 1/8" seems like plenty to me. i also attached a picture of my worn out bushings.

I may hafta do that task on my A2C truck. The pitman shaft moves in the box quite a bit. I check it once a week to see if it magically repairs itself, but so far it hasn't happened.

How did you press the bushings out and back in?

Rick

we used an impact socket that was a little smaller than the hole in the casting. worked good and did not mess up the bushings at all. the TM shows a special driver tool which would work good but would have to be special made.

the bushings are clevite #02504 incase anybody wanted the bushings. i forget what memphis charged me, but the 2 bushings, seal and gasket was something likee $35. seems like a fair price to me and shipped fast!

I havent driven the truck yet, because i just got it mostly together tonight.... test drive tomorrow after work!!
