Stupid Bosch Security Screw…

Hi all,
Wanted to add a little bit of fuel to my A2 on a budget. I read up about backing off the rack adjustment screw, and decided to give that a try. The tamper proof screw on the cover to that adjustment screw ruined my day after I mangled it, and the stud got stuck in the pump housing. Can I just grind off that mangled screw head and have it secured by just one screw? I would rather not have to buy a metric tap and spend an afternoon drilling and tapping!

If you must drill and re-tap, buy a left hand or reverse drill bit matching what the tap calls for. Sometimes the broken screw will back out while drilling

Thank you. I hoped an adjustment would not get very involved. Since I do not have a metric tap, are two screws really required? Thanks again!

I wouldn't be satisfied with just one screw holding the cover on, just my opinion.

That cover holds a stopper in position for no boost fueling adjustment. You should have both screws. The "tamper proof" are just 5 lobed style with a center hole and all injector pumps seem to have them these days. I don't use them often but need them when I do. Do yourself a favor and get a set. You've installed a pyrometer? IMHO being foolish adjusting that if you haven't. Very easy to do you can buy a setup from TMG with boost/pyro and some switches to bolt on for about $250 or just the pyro and Arduino module for $90. An "R" sized drill bit and an 1/8" tap it's pretty easy.

In a jam I've "modified " security screws using a whizzer or a Dremel with a cutoff wheel and just cut in a slot for use with a flat screw driver.
