Sweet 57 CJ5 Fire Rig

Bud of mine called Saturday to ask me if I could come over to his place and ID a jeep that he is doing some work on .. he figured it was a WWII era jeep ..

Nice original CJ5 rig with a pump and tank unit for fighting brush fires .. determined that it's a 1957 model from the serial #'s ...and from the looks of it belonged to the Douglas Aircraft Corporation at one time .. owner is going to leave it original and has all the brass and chrome fire fighting gear that stores on the rear deck ..looks like the rig and tank was designed specifically for the CJ frame and body .. and it has a siren and light that mounts on the fender. Interesting lock out hubs.

Neat little truck, I have seen the Gladiators that preceded that rigged the same way (they had the same front end as the original "Commando" or "Wagoneer" of the 1950's with a heavier suspension), so it is a pretty rare little truck your friend has and it does have an indirect military connection through the Douglas AC Corp.

Is the rear step missing?

ALCON, no rear step but that makes sense as there are holes in the frame at the rear for something to be mounted there! If anyone has a pic of that rear step it would be greatly appreciates as we could FAB one up in a heartbeat.

Will provide an update with pics as my bud sandblasted the frame and body, primed and painted the frame within the last couple of weeks.

I bet that thing has some beefed up springs compared to a regular cj5 to hold all that water.

My bud has been all over it these last two months and the results are excellent .. other than the choice of tires by the owner (Myself, my bud and several others that hang, thought that the tires look a little to wimpy for this old Jeep). Jeramie, has a little clean up to complete the project and it should be out the door by this Friday .. perhaps he can convince the owner to revisit the tire choice

Nooooo! on the tires, they are perfect! It is a 1957 jeep, not a 1978 CJ5 with a 304 V8, headers, and lift kit. Those tires look great on the jeep as it is restored back to a 1957 jeep. 1943ht just think of all of us here wanted you to put "chrome mags" on the your halftrack. That is one beautiful fire jeep.
