Tach cable lube advise requested

The instrument panel is about to be re-installed on the 757 and my question is, is it a good idea to lube the tach cable at this time? If so, what lubricant?

If the core slides out have a look. Motorcycles get a very light coating grease on lower 2/3, core out. Lube near the gauge can cause problems on some, working back into gauge. Maybe study the gauge for a seal. If there is one, contamination should not be an issue. Not a lot of lube needed anyhow. JimK

Bjorn, we always get a little dab of chassis grease in one hand then thread the cable through it, wiping the excess off with our fingers, as we slide it into the housing. It doesn't need a lot as there's no where for it to go and not much in the way of contaminants for it to get mixed up with.

I sure would be using speedometer cable lube, which is fine carbon particles suspended in a carrier solution...usually available in a small tube at auto parts stores... Grease and cold weather make the cables sluggish and jumpy....

Don't want to take the thing apart, just wondered if this would be a good time to drip a lubricant down the cable since it's all downhill to the engine needed or not.

thats how you do it... hold the upper end of the cable vertical and pour some of this wonderful lube down it...a little at a time and gravity takes its course.
