Teaching your mechanic

I am a new CUCV M1009 owner. I just got my CUCV a week ago.

I try to do most work myself on the CUCV. On other things I carry to someone with more experience than myself.

We got my CUCV on rack and for over 28 years old it looked better than I thought it would.

We found 2 small leaks from a newly replaced IP. One from the a injector line and from the plug on bottom of IP.

My mechanic who has no experience with CUCVs. I trust the guy. I have given him a pdf of all manuals. He feels taking out the IP to replace some o ring is going to be some huge project.

After some research taking out the IP isn't some huge 5-6 hour task. He has part if it done already with intake manifold removed.

Is this common with CUCV owner to help train your mechanic?

I would like to verify removing IP doesn't take 5-6 hours?

I have replaced many pumps in 6.2s they are not bad to do at all. They look worse than they are.

I took mine off last summer. I would say it took about 3 hours. I was being pretty careful and taking my time. Wasn't bad at all. All the steps are here and in the TMs. I mailed mine to Accurate Diesel for rebuild. Great work, and a decent price.

I would try to verify the mechanics diagnosis. You would hate to pull the IP only to find out later it was actually the rubber fuel line that feeds the IP leaking.

If I use a mechanic I always leave the TM for the job he is doing in the front seat for a reference if needed. They always look at them.

It is very common to have to teach your mechanic about any MV.

You want to run away for the mechanic that won't listen and insists that he has a better way of doing something.

I would say the only thing you should have to teach your mechnic is the electricial system on a CUCV . If you have to teach them about diesels , find a different mechanic . Everyting on a CUCV is the same as a civy truck except the electrical system .

Thinking the same thing. If you have to teach him your better off doing it yourself.
