Thinking of buying a donor Suburban

I have found quite a few older 1987-1991 (fuel injected) Suburbans in my local area that run for less than $1500. The reason why I want to purchase one is that I would like the AC system out of it to put into my CUCV M1009. I might even try and put in the rear cooler! Also I would like to find one with good seats and then just get some nice seat covers that match the CUCV interior. Probably some Wet Okole in black would work. Also I want the 350 motor and tranny to put into my 1984 Land Cruiser. Then just part out the truck or sell it off to a scrap yard.

How hard are the AC swaps for these trucks? I am a very proficient at turning wrenches but have honestly never really worked on an AC system before. Should I take it to a mechanic that is more experienced in AC or can I just pull the dash and start throwing on parts?

Why not just buy a civilian Blazer and paint it OD, add a couple of shackels and a Brush Guard and you are good to go.? BTY A civilian AC of those years will need a compressor change to the newer unit. Wayne

My daily driver is a 91 Burb complete with the 6.2. if the paint wasn't so nice, I'd camo it. It already has the CUCV shackles on the front just in case I need to towbar it. I love the idea of a Suburban CUCV like Rick Theirs built. Several of the SS family will see it tomorrow at JAX when we get together to pick up our trailers.
