Timing Chain

Fellas,
I'm replacing a timing chain and IP simultaneously. Unless I am confused, which is highly likely, I am suppose to line the timing marks on the on the IP driven gear (6 o'clock) and IP drive gear (12 o'clock). Then when removing the timing chain components, align the timing marks AGAIN, on the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets in the same fashion. Is this correct? The camshaft and crankshaft marks are 12 o'clock and 12 o'clock respectively. I guess my question is, do I crank her until the camshaft and crankshaft sprocket timing marks align 6 and 12 o'clock, and realign my IP gears when the time comes? Thanks.

As I read the manual, remove the IP gear from the IP first, then remove the IP camshaft gear. Then rotate the engine until the crankshaft and camshaft timing marks line up. Next replace the chain and gears. Re-install the IP gear on the camshaft. Rotate the engine again until the timing mark on the camshaft IP gear is at 12 o’clock, then with both IP gears aligned install the IP.
My two cents.

I feel pretty good about your assessment also. The issue I'm running in to is my manual (9-2320-289-34) literally has the order of operations as follows. I appreciate your quick response! I guess I don't understand the point of lining up the IP gears for removal. Anyway Thanks.

You line up the IP gears before removal so you do not have to try to turn the IP to re-install it back into the gear. That keeps the alignment pin on the IP in the right place for reassembly.
