Thanks, I'm learning what I have. Its listed as a M116a3 chassis. It has a narrow box so it must be a a1 or a2 box. Its rated at 1 ton and has the raised axle. I bought it for the hmmwv wheels and tires and was thinking that if I got some dually rims maybe that would put the tire back under the fender. Even the Hmmwv tire sticks out from the fender. I'm hoping this is doable. The trailer also has a landing leg that looks like it should raise and lower the hitch but I wasn't sure because I couldn't get it to move. Is there a crank that supposed to come with the trailer?

Lastly, the trailer bucks harshly, really bangs in the hitch when the brakes are appliedI figure something isn't working with the brakes. any help is appreciated.

Yup, sounds like an A2 body on an A3 chassis. Look for pics of an A3, they have small fender lips that you could probably tack weld on. The "spazum" when hitting the brakes means the surge brake shock absorber is worn out, time to replace it.

Where is a good place to get that shock absorber?
Will the dually wheels from a 80's chevy or ford dually work on these trailers. My son wants a set of hmmwv tires on his truck, so I'm looking for a replacement for the trailer. I thought I'd put some 16" dually wheels on it and use a 235/85/16 tire. Is this an option?

I doubt the duals will fit the trailer, but don't know enough about either to be sure. I'd have to search the threads to find shock info.

Thanks for all the help, but I still need more. Are all the surge brakes made by the same company or based on one brand? I'm trying to locate parts locally. I wish I had a TM for this. Is there a tool for raising and lowering the landing leg? If so I need one of those too. Thanks

Yes there is a crank handle that is used to operate the jack. Your best bet is to build one if you don't have one. I'm sure there is a bunch of different models of surge brakes on the trailers. Your best bet is to remove the one from your trailer and take it to an auto parts store or a trailer store to have it matched up.

I called one local supplier and he told me they only stock fulton brand and there were many models of it alone. I'm going to look for a dually wheel to test on the trailer. I couldn't find any references to them on trailers on this site. They have even more backspacing than hmmwv wheels and if they would fit that would put a 235/85/16 tire back under the fender. I'm going to take the wheel off the trailer to see what the hub looks like. Thanks

If you have an A3 bed then a dually wheel won't fit once the trailer has a load on it. On the A2 they will fit though with 215/85-16.

Installing duals on the trailer are a case of over kill though as a pair of 16" load range D tires can carry more than enough weight for the whole trailer.

If you install dual rear wheels you will have to install a mud flat or face Barney Fife if your trailer throws up a stone. Single rear tires don't require the mud flaps, duals do.

I just wanted to use one dually wheel each side to bring the tire back under the bed of the a2 box since it sits on the wide a3 axle. I was hoping to find out if it would fit before I bought any. Sorry I wasn't real clear.
