I have a Warn MIL-9000 surplus winch mounted to my M1009 which I need to do some electrical troubleshooting on. The trouble is that the control pack is coated in some sort of rubber waterproofing. Has anyone got an easy method of clearing all that crap off so I can get to the wiring and contacts before I just go to town with brake parts cleaner and an X-acto knife?

From the repair guide [ Control Pack repairs are not recommended. If the control assembly is defective, replace it.]
I would guess the rubber coating is to keep moisture out.
