turn signal question

Hello everyone, I'm trying to get the turn signals back on my deuce, the person who owned it before me had removed everything remotely related to signaling, so it has been quite the challange. I was wondering if I need a flasher unit in the circut. I am using a "control assembly directional signal, NSN 6220-00-431-3771, the type that clamps to the steering column.

Yup, its a finned box with 3 wires sticking out of it. One is a ground.

unless it is an old truck, then it will have 6 wires under screws.

There's a couple of NOS flasher Units on Ebay under M35A2, and I pretty certain that several of the suppliers on here can get you one, check OD IRon,Saturn Surplus, Et Al.
